Tula 100 blocks City Sampler quilt

A few months ago I decided to join in the Tula Pink City Sampler quilt sew -along to make  #100days100blocks where the idea was to sew a block each day for the 100 days.
This started as a great way to use up some of my Tula stash left over from the Pixel Perfect quilt.
I have really enjoyed sewing along with hundreds of others from all over the world on IG and seeing their beautiful blocks each day.
These are my 100 blocks after sashing - I basically followed the colours from the book and even the same prints if I had them otherwise I would still be choosing fabrics for my blocks:)
The layout I decided to use was "Gridlocked" from Tulas book although I needed to rearrange a few blocks that didn't quite fit the colour gradient.
There are quite a few other layout ideas listed in the book and I have also seen some amazing ideas on Pinterest, flickr and IG.
I had this quilted at my LQS - Rainbow Patchwork, and chose some of the gorgeous Tula Free Fall in Orchid for the backing, before binding in the raspberry diamond print from Acacia.
Thank you so much to the fabulous hosts of this fun sew along - @gnomeangel, @sunflowerquilting, and @sweetlittlepretties!

A Necessary Clutch Wallet

This is my first Necessary Clutch Wallet (NCW) made using some of my favourite Tula Pink fabric - Oh Deer in Indigo from Moonshine.
I had planned to use the elephant Diety fabric in mint for the for the lining but didn't have quite enough so used a lime solid instead.
This wallet was made to match the Outlander tote from a few years ago...
I already have plans for another NCW but will use a sturdier interfacing for the card slots and the zip pocket sections.

Hoop wall art

Back in August, there was a sew along hosted by Kylie from Willow and Trout, and I have finally finished my hoop.
I used a few of the leftover scraps from the Canyon jelly roll for the pretty yo-yo flowers.
I hadn't really done very much embroidery before so this was such a fun project to do!
And I think I may have finally mastered French knots.
This hoop will hang on my wall with the other cute bicycle hoops a friend from work did for me a while ago.

Xmas Gift Bags

As part of my "handmade" Christmas, I decided to make some bags in a few styles and sizes for gift giving.
There are so many festive fabrics around so this was a great opportunity to use some of them in gift bags which can be reused.
The first ones I made were a satchel style bag which folded over and was easily secured with some ribbon and a button.
Then I used the Lined Drawstring Bag tutorial by Jeni @ In Color Order to make a few more bags.
I adjusted the pattern to make some of different sized bags to use for a bottle of wine and also a tiny gift one suitable for some jewellery.
My favourite bags are probably the cute Koala drawstring bag and the sparkly reindeer gift bag.
And they looked so cute amongst the wrapped gifts under the tree.

Xmas Star pillow

This Christmas pillow was made from a block using the "Scrap Jar Stars" tutorial by Amber @ A Little Biased for this pillow.
This was a fun block to make and a great way to use up little 2" scraps of fabric.
I did some simple cross hatch quilting to give the pillow a bit of texture before binding in a bright red.
The back of the pillow has some sparkly gold stars fabric to echo the star on the front.

Scraptastic Tuesday - Scrappy Canyon quilt

When I made the Patchwork Swoon quilt for my daughters 21st birthday a few months ago, I was left with some large HST's that I decided to use to make another quilt.
I used these HST along with another print and some grey solid yardage to make a quilt top (more info here).
Then quilted it with my favourite Serpentine stitch with lines about one inch apart.
The backing is the fun Ikea Britten Nummer fabric which I am rapidly running out of!
The Canyon jelly roll is the first one that I have used, and I was quite surprised that from that one jelly roll (and by using some additional print and solid fabric) I have managed to make 3 quilts - the Patchwork Swoon quilt, the Watercolor Seahorses quilt and also this one (along with another small project that I will share later).

Aqua Feathers Caravan tote

The Caravan Tote is a great bag pattern by Anna @ Noodlehead that I have used a few times already, in the Lion King tote for my mum and a Feathery tote for a friend.
I bought some new aqua denim and really liked how it went with the feathers drill that I had used in the first Caravan tote I made.
This bag is a gift for a teenage girl - hope she likes it!

"Ruby Tuesday" quilt

One of the ladies I work with recently made a couple of beautiful Log Cabin quilts and since then, I have been keen to make one myself.
I decided to make the "Room and Board" pattern by Camille @Thimblelossoms so gathered some fabrics and started cutting into them.
I used a mix of Bonnie and Camille's Ruby and their newly released Little Ruby and as I started this quilt on Tuesday 26th July, named it "Ruby Tuesday".
Later on I found out that 26/7 is also Mick Jagger's birthday and that the song was released in 1967 which is the year I was born - just a few little happy coincidences:)
I also had some white tone on tone floral leftover from my "Spell it With Moda" quilt, and also enough light aqua from the "Patchwork Swoon" quilt to make these blocks so was able to do a bit of stash busting for this quilt!
The blocks were very simple to put together and finish at 20" square and as I had decided to make a lap sized quilt, only needed to sew 9 of them.
The quilting was done along the seam lines every 2 inches using the Serpentine stitch again - I really love how it looks with all of the straight strips of fabric in this quilt.
For the backing, I used the ever-popular Ikea Britten fabric with a little strip of the light aqua down one side to make it wide enough.
And bound the quilt in my favourite B&C scallops print in aqua which is another fabric from the original Ruby range.
This was a really quick and easy quilt to sew and would be perfect for a beginner as it is just straight piecing and there are only a few seams to match at the end.
