Vinyl Project Pouch

I have been sewing some EPP hexagons for the Tula Pink "Hurray for Hexies" quilt for some time now and needed a little project pouch to keep them all in.

There are a few tutorials around for zip pouches such as the Simple Zipper Bag tutorial at Fat Quarter Shop but I chose the Vinyl project pouch tutorial from the Moda Bake Shop as I really liked the clear vinyl "window".

One problem with sewing vinyl is that it is slippery but by stitching a fabric strip across the top of the vinyl (the lilac fabric in my photo) it is then sandwiched between fabric at all times so it is quite easy to sew.

I just need to be more careful when pressing as hot irons and vinyl do not mix well!

Aussie Ipad Pouch

For Mothers Day this year, I decided to make my mum a pouch for her new ipad as she is about to have a knee replacement operation later this week .

She will be using her ipad more often in the upcoming weeks as she recovers so I wanted to make her something pretty to keep it in.

The fabric features some of our colourful Australia birds including the Kookaburra and the Red-tailed Black cockatoo which is one of my mothers favourites.

I quilted the fabric to some bag batting to make the ipad case more sturdy then bound it in the lime green solid before giving it to her for Mothers Day.

Passport wallet

We will soon be jetting off for our first overseas holiday, so before we left I wanted to make another passport wallet to hold our essentials.

Like in the previous travel wallet I made for my parents, I used the "Expedition" print from the Eclectic Elements range by Tim Holtz.

And again based the wallet on the "Two in One Zipper Pouch" pattern by Svetlana @ Sotak Handmade.

I made it a little larger to hold the passports and also added in a slip pocket for boarding passes and other travel documents.

The front of the wallet has some clues as to where were headed...

Q2 list for the Finish-A-Long

We will be away for a few weeks during this quarter but I have a few projects that I would still like to get done before we go...

1. First up is a baby quilt made for Keepsafe quilts using the Genny and Ruth blocks that I still need to quilt and bind.

2. I am joining in the Pantone colour of the year challenge as green is my favourite colour - I was able to get most of these green and low volume fabrics from my stash:)

3. And another smaller project using the same green fabrics along with some of the Kona solid in "Parrot" which is a good match to Pantones "Greenery"...

4. A one hour basket for a friends daughter who is having a baby boy - luckily for me she chose an elephant theme. 

5. Another baby boy quilt to be finished is one using the Trip Around the World method of piecing.

6. And I really need to make the Passport pouch for our trip!! 

7. It is now autumn here in Australia so I have quite a few crochet projects planned - first is to finish a gift for my mum for Mothers day using some lovely Bouvardia yarn.

8. And I bought a few colours of the Caron Cakes to make a Desert Winds scarf for my sister-in-law for her birthday which I started in the car on our way home from Newcastle.

9. And also crocheting another one to keep me warm on our trip away...

10. Along with a colourful beanie:)

11. And a nice soft simple scarf in this lovely mustard colour that goes with just about anything.

12. And maybe I will get the beach ripple blanket finished this time.

2017 Finish Along Q1.

I had good intentions of doing lots of sewing but due to very hot weather over summer, only managed to actually finish a few of the projects on my Q1 proposed list of finishes. 

1. Abstract Elephant quilt:  still no further progress.

 2. AMH Painted Portrait dress: done!

3. Baby Animals quilt: done!

4. Butterfly quilt by Tula Pink - I have been saving my Eden bundle for this to do a different version of this amazing quilt.

5.Cloud 9 Plus quilt: thinking of doing a different design for this one....

6. Coastal ripples blanket: no further progress.

7. Colorway quilt: done!

8. Liberty Fancy Foxes quilt: done!

9. Matilda/Melba Swoon quilt: all of the blocks are made but still need to finish the quilt!

10.Necessary Wallet Clutch (NCW) : done!

11. Plus Squared quilt: done!

12. Summerlove Swoon Sixteen: didn't get a chance to start this one:(

13.Tula hexie quilt: no progress.

14. World travel wallet: no further progress.

AGF Necessary wallet

After making my first NCW last year, I wanted to make another using some of the beautiful new
 Art Gallery denim.

The denim is a a lighter weight denim which is just perfect for these wallets.

For the lining I used a coordinating Cloud9 print and a solid fabric for the card pockets.

I used a slightly heavier weight interfacing for this NCW which has given it a bit more structure than the previous one.

This project was on my FAL Q1 list for this year so linking up with the 2017 FAL team.

Proposed list of finished for FAL Q1 2017

Another year has begun so I am ready for some new (and old) projects to make when I have days off from work - some of these are possibly longer term projects so if they don't get finished this quarter, I can roll them over into the next one.

1. Abstract Elephant quilt: This is a project carried over from last year, as I have only done 3/97 pieces...

2. AMH Painted Portrait dress: I had enough of this rayon leftover from another top to also make a dress and I really like this pattern for these hot summer days.

3. Baby Animals quilt: I have used this Plus pattern a few times already as it is such a quick one to make a cute baby quilt from.

4. Butterfly quilt by Tula Pink - I have been saving my Eden bundle for this to do a different version of this amazing quilt.

5.Cloud 9 Plus quilt: another baby quilt using an assortment of Cloud 9 organic fabrics.

6. Coastal ripples blanket: I may have to wait until it cools down a bit before taking this up again....

7. Colorway quilt: my Colorway quilt is quilted so only the binding to go - I couldn't go past the stripey B&W from Handmade.

8. Liberty Fancy Foxes quilt: I have always loved the original Fancy Fox quilt made using Liberty fabrics so am going to make a smaller sized quilt with these prints.

9. Matilda/Melba Swoon quilt: Joining in the Swoon quilt-along and using fabrics by Emma Jean Jansen.

10.Necessary Wallet Clutch (NCW) : I have some beautiful Art Gallery denim to use for the outside of this wallet. 

11. Plus Squared quilt: I am cutting into my stash of August prints from Cotton and Steel to make this quilt.

12. Summerlove Swoon Sixteen: I also want to make another Swoon quilt using this bundle of Art Gallery "Summerlove" prints with the coral solid for the sashing.

13.Tula hexie quilt: I now have an acrylic template to use to cut the extra hexagons for the quilt.

14. World travel wallet: As we are going on an overseas trip this year, I need to make a passport wallet using this map fabric by Tim Holtz.
