These 22 inch blocks came together so quickly and easily! I started this on Thursday, worked all day Friday so got no sewing done, then really got stuck into it over the weekend so it was basically 3.5 days from start to finish.
This is a really quick and easy quilt to piece - I did do all of the pre cutting before going to the class as I wasn't sure how much room we would have to spread out on the tables at the workshop. Even the pre cutting is quite straightforward though being just squares and strips.
Camille showed us a very clever way of chain piecing the parts of the block together which links them all up nicely (as long as you don't turn any of them along the way!) and makes pressing seams so that they nest properly easier too.
I made the first 2 blocks at the class, then on Saturday cut and trimmed all of the remaining HST then chain pieced the strips sets and made the 9-patch blocks. By Sunday lunchtime I had put 2 more blocks together then managed to get the final 5 done in the afternoon - 7 blocks in 7 hours isn't too bad:)
And on Monday I sewed all of the blocks together to make the quilt top. Still need to decide on how to quilt this - I will probably do this one myself as it is fairly manageable at 67.5" so any ideas would be appreciated?

This is absolutely beautiful! I love big blocks too!
ReplyDeleteGreat job. The big blocks are so fun. I actually did 2 swoon quilts and then I made 1 king size block, well it was an 80 inch swoon block with great big borders.
ReplyDeleteYay, it looks fantastic! Well done for getting it finished so quickly! (maybe you can come to my house and help me finish mine.... :-)
ReplyDeleteLook at you! This class was a real hit, wasn't it? Love your finished top :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and soooo quick! Wonderful quilt!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Your quilt looks wonderful! I always piece blocks like that, so much quicker and more organised!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I just love this. The centre block has such a nice pop with that red background.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks and quilt are lovely. When it comes to quilting I think the blocks 'speak for themselves' so an all over pattern that doesn't detract from the patchwork or you could outline quilt each patch. Whatever it is going to be a stunner.
ReplyDeleteTotally lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh I am so in love with your quilt!! I'm like you, I can't choose a favorite!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I may need to make this one too :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOooh, lovely job!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! It would be hard for me to pick a favorite block too :)
ReplyDeleteLucky you getting yours finished. Sounds like you had it sorted out. Camille's technique I think helps in making the blocks quicker especially once you get used to it. I think I will be using that technique now. I will be stuck on 4 blocks for a while. Life is busy for the next couple of weeks. I will just have to feast on everyone else's blocks and quilt tops. Congratulations on getting yours finished. It is beautiful. Can't wait to see how you quilt it.
ReplyDeleteI love the Goose on the pond block. Your colors are marvelous!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great all together. I love how there's a reverse block.
