Chicopee Feathers pillow

When I was having a tidy up recently, I found a couple of stray feathers blocks left over from the AMH Chicopee Feathers quilt made by the AusModBee members a few years ago.
I also had this 35 x 53 cm pillow form lying around and the feathers were almost the right size to join together to make a longer breakfast style pillow.
To get the blocks to the right size, I just had to add a little of the light grey solid to each side before echo quilting around each of the feathers.
I even found some of the black ladder dot binding leftover from my Feathers quilt which was almost enough to go around the pillow - just needed to add in a bit of the citron yellow from the back of the Feathers quilt.
And the pillow is backed in some of the Britten Nummer fabric which I bought a few more metres of on a recent trip to Ikea.
Now I just have to wait until it cools down so I can use the quilt on our bed again along with the matching pillow.

Sewing 2014 year in review...

Well, 2014 is nearly over so this is my sewing round up for the year - first up are the big quilts...
 Mini quilts...
Quite a few bags...including 9 Super Totes, and a Weekender Bag.
 Some pouches...
A few blocks for the Aus Mod Bee, and also some #hashtag blocks which were sent for the #sewing for Sydney quilts.
And some random items -  a fabric basket, table runner, a crochet hook roll up, sleep pants, pillows, Social Tote and a paper pieced elephant.
So I think I had a pretty good year sewing wise.  I am currently having a bit of a break from sewing over the summer holidays, but have already signed up for a few swaps due next year so once school goes back I will make a start on those projects.

Finish Along project report for Quarter 3

There were 10 projects listed in my Q3 FAL list - a mix of large (quilts), medium sized (bags), and smaller (mini quilts) projects on my list for this quarter and I managed to get most of them finished.
Finish Along 2014
1. Road Trip Case : done.
2. Red Letter Day quilt - done.
3. Red Letter Day mini  - done.
4. Birthday Super Tote: done!
5. The "Phoebe" pattern is by Melly and Me and makes up a cute elephant soft toy - no further progress:(
6. The Poolside tote pattern - no progress:(
7. AMB AMH Chicopee Feathers quilt - done!
8. Mini quilts for a friend - both done! I used one of the "Spell it with Moda" letter patterns for the "T" and the mini "Round and Round" pattern by Camille Roskelley for the other.
 9. Amy Butler Weekender: all I have done is made a start on the panels for the pockets :(
10. Sea Breezey Mini Quilt  - done!
So those items that had little or no progress will now move onto my Q4 list along with a few more projects which will I need to get done by Christmas!

AMB AMH Chicopee feathers quilt!

I went up to Brisbane this weekend for a school reunion and got home on Sunday in time to snap some pics of my newly finished Chicopee Feathers quilt!
I am so very happy with how this quilt has turned out!

I don't usually piece the back of my quilts but thought a simple strip of feathers was just right for across the centre.
It is the last day of winter here in Australia and the late afternoon sun was at just the right angle to show off the quilting.
Karen's quilting is amazingly perfect - almost like a breeze blowing through the feathers.
A very big thank you and lots of hugs go out to all of the lovely ladies in the Aus Mod Bee group on flickr - without you I would never have got all of these feathers made!
This quilt will always be so very special to me and remind me of the blocks that we all made for each other.

Fresh Sewing Day - June

Last month was quite a good one for me as I celebrated a birthday and attended a very special quilting class.
I also managed to sew up quite a few projects - a Super Tote to take to the Red Letter Day workshop, a Rugby throw rug, a Cargo Duffle, a couple of Migration blocks for Jess in the Aus Mod bee, and a Social Tote.
I dont think I shared photos of this earlier - I also used the Mini Spools pattern from Camille @ Simplify  to use in a zip pouch to hold all of my sewing supplies.

Aus Mod Bee Butterfly blocks

February was Danielles' (Petitselefants) month to be Queen bee in our Aus Mod Bee group.
She chose the lovely Butterfly block using the tutorial by Rita at Red Pepper Quilts.
She sent out a great selection of fabrics to use and even made up some templates for us to use which was great!.
I hadn't made these blocks before but they are really fun to sew.
So this brings us up to 12 months of making blocks for the AusMod bee . It has been a so enjoyable making such a variety of wonderful blocks for this great group.
I am still in the process of sewing together the Chicopee feathers blocks that everyone made for me back in May.
Quiltjane has photos of her finished Refractatorium quilt and Pennys Lizzy House quilt in progress is hereThere is also more in the flickr group AusModBee or on IG with the tag #ausmodbee.

Aus Mod Bee November blocks

Yes you did read that correctly - these are the blocks from November for the Aus Mod Bee.
Luckily the next bee member is a bit late in sending her fabrics as I am just waiting on a bit more of the white to finish the 4th feather.
Although I really would like to send these off before they get lost amongst all of my sewing stuff!

FAL Q1 2014 list!!

My main goal for this year is to try and use up some of the ever-expanding stash of fabrics that I have here as it is really getting beyond control so along with the usual sewing projects, I am hoping to try and make some clothing items as I do find it hard to find nice things to fit my short and wide shape:)
Anyway, onto my FAL list:
1. First up is a project that I have selected fabrics for and which I will get onto cutting once the cat removes himself from them:)
2. Feathers quilt - these blocks from my lovely AusModBee members didn't even get a look in during the 4th quarter so once again are on my list.
Still deciding on which layout to do though...
3. SSM4 project: I have some fabrics cut out for one of these bags and have started sewing as there is less than a month to go for this swap already.
4. I am starting my clothes sewing endeavours with a nice simple pair of PJ/lounge pants from this pretty rayon fabric which I am sure you will all recognize.
5. I pinned a tutorial by Made By Rae late last year on how to make a nice floor Ottoman and have found some sturdy drill and piping cord to make it.
6. I made one of Anna @ Noodleheads fabulous divided fabric baskets for a swap recently and have decided that I need one too so I have some fabrics pulled.
7.Item for the 2014 Pantone challenge - Radiant Orchid. I have joined in the previous two Pantone challenges and although this is not usually a colour I use, I went though my stash last week -  just hoping that I have got the "Orchid" shade right as I am hoping to make a pattern that I have wanted to do again for a while and these colours will be perfect!
