Broadway Musical palettes

This week Jennie has suggested to use Broadway move/musical posters for the palettes, so I had to use the Lion King as we are going to see it in December.
And Chicago  is another one that we saw a few years ago at QPAC in Brisbane - it was fabulous!

Rainy palettes

This week the theme is "Rain" for the palettes over at Porch Swing Quilts. We have a subtropical climate where I live in Australia, so over summer we usually get quite a few thunderstorms and I love the look of the raindrops on the beautiful Frangipanis in our garden.
And a little quilt made from the cute (free) mini Raincheck quilt pattern by Camille Roskelly @ Simplify using Umbrella Prints fabrics..

October Palette

As I am in Australia, we are in the middle of Spring now so I wasn't sure if I could find an suitable photo for the "October" palette over at Porch Swing Quilts, then I remembered this autumny looking Artsy Trees mini quilt which I made back in 2011.

This design was based on a papercraft tutorial by a local artist, Loretta Grayson and I wanted to try to make a version in fabric for this mini quilt.  Linking up with Jennie @ Porch Swing Quilts.

Palettes

This week's colour palette over at Porch Swing Quilts is brown which makes me think of chocolate:
And a mini quilt in an autumny colour scheme:
Because we were on holidays and I missed last week's "French" theme,  this is a Paris themed quilt I made for my sister-in-laws 40th birthday a few years ago.

Vintage palette

This weeks theme for palettes over at Porch Swing Quilts is vintage. I really love the palette from the pretty collection of Pyrex dishes on Jennies
This is a lovely old black 1928 Model A Ford Tourer that we hired for our daughters formal last year - such a classic car which certainly sounded a lot more modern with its V8 engine!
And a vintagey style patchwork Scrappy trip-along quilt made from over 180 different Denyse Schmidt fabrics - I love the softer colours in this palette.
The next theme is "France".....linking up with Jennie at Porch Swing Quilts.

Disney Palette

This week is Disney week over at Porch Swing Quilts and although my children are all teenagers now, we all still love Disney movies. I must confess that although I haven't yet seen Frozen which is one of the latest Disney releases, I am quite familiar with the songs as the boys sing them whilst in the shower:)
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love elephants and I have been collecting them for over 30 years so Dumbo is my choice for the palette this week. My other favourites would be Bambi and The Lion King - I named our cat Simba and I am looking forward to seeing the live production of The Lion King in Brisbane later this year.
And I found a little pouch I made from some very sweet Pinocchio fabric which was a gift for a friend. Linking up with Jennie over at Porch Swing Quilts.

Favourite photo palette

This week, the pallette at Porch swing quilts is a little different. As we have now made our way through a rainbow of colour, Jennie suggested to use a favourite photo to make a palette from.
Firstly, a pretty floral photo as it is the first day of spring here in Australia today - this is a Double Delight rose from our garden and it has a beautiful scent too.

And as today is also my twin boys 16th birthday, this photo from our daughters formal last year came to mind. Linking up with Jennie over at Porch Swing Quilts. Next up is a Disney pic...

Purple Palettes

Some pretty purples this week over at Porch Swing Quilts to brighten up the dreary weather we are having here.
A field of lavender out near Tamworth, NSW....
And my Soft Kitty pillow which was an entry for the Pantone Radiant Orchid challenge earlier this year. Linking up with Jennie over at Porch Swing quilts.

Moody blues....

Blue is the colour for this week 's palette over at Porch Swing Quilts
The colour blue always makes me think of the ocean and if you look closely at the photo above, there are a couple of dolphins jumping the waves we saw during our trip to Yamba earlier this year.
And a recent "blue" sewing project - my Red Letter Day mini Kitty quilt. Linking up with Jennie over at Porch Swing Quilts.

Colour Palette: Green

This weeks colour palette over at Porch Swing Quilts is green which is my favourite colour!
First up is a gorgeous Rainbow Lorikeet that visited our balcony whilst we were on holidays in the Whitsundays a few years ago. It was definitely one of the brighter parts of our trip as it rained constantly the whole week were there:(
(Note to self: do not book a tropical island holiday during cyclone season!)
And this is the "Land of Oz" quilt I made for last years Pantone emerald challenge.

"Yellow'

This weeks colour palette over at Porch Swing Quilts is yellow which always makes me think of the song by Coldplay. Jennie has some wonderful photos that she has chosen to make palettes from and these are mine for this week:
A glorious yellow Kangaroo Paw which is an Australian native plant.
And a Sprouts block which was part of a mini quilt I made for a swap last year.
Next weeks colour is green which is my favourite:)

Orange Palette.

This weeks palette colour over at Porch Swing Quilts was "orange" so once again I used the Play crafts palette builder on a few photos. This first one is of a Prickly Pear flower which was an incredibly vibrant orange.
And this one is of my kitty Simba laying on the reverse side of my Scrappy Trip along quilt - I added a few more colours using the "+" to increase the number of colours chosen for the palette up to 10.
So according to Jennie, next up will be yellow which is probably one of my least used colours.

Playing with palettes!

Jennie over at Porch Swing Quilts is hosting a "Color Mondays" link where she sets a theme, you upload a picture following that theme to Play-crafts Palette builder then link it back to her blog.
I thought it may be fun to play around with a few photos to see what colours pop up in the palette builder. The first theme was "red" and I immediately thought of this photo I took a few years ago of the poppies at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.
And the block from the centre of my  Red Letter Day quilt.
Jennie said she might start off with rainbow so I might have a look around for some orange pics to do next.
