Pretty Zippy pouches.

For Christmas I received this wonderful colouring book by Tula Pink from my children, so I made myself a Pretty Zippy pouch to match!

This was added to the group of pouches that I had already made for gifts using the Pretty Zippy pattern by Peta @ She Quilts A Lot.

I made a few pouches in each of the two sizes given in the pattern but you could easily change these if needed.

These were made from some of the beautiful Cloud 9 organic fabrics and one will be gifted to my manager who is leaving work tomorrow.

And a couple more in Tula Pink owl fabric for my two nieces who are currently holidaying in New Zealand so I will catch up with them later in January.

And lastly one for my mum -  for her I chose a William Morris print to match a tea bag holder I made for her birthday.

These pouches were really fun to sew and make great gifts that you can fill with little treats.

Miss Kate Raw-edge quilt

One of the first quilts my sisters-in-law made was a Raw Edge quilt using the tutorial by Ros @ Bloom and Blossom, and it has also been one on my to-do list.  

So when I happened across a fat eighth bundle of Bonnie and Camilles' Miss Kate flannel recently, I decided to buy it to make a quilt using this method.  

To make a 7x8 layout though, I needed a few more squares but found just enough Bliss aqua dot flannel leftover here from making the backing for my Red Letter Day quilt last year. 

I also bought a watermelon coloured King sized flat flanellette sheet on clearance at the end of winter to use for the back of the squares as it matched the Miss Kate perfectly.

It was quite easy to layer these flannel squares together and I just quilted them in a big "X" through the centre.

I laid all of the squares out on my design floor and tried to alternate colourful blocks with the lighter blue of the Bliss flannel.

And after a couple of washes it came out all nice and fluffy!

Ros's method of making the quilt includes binding which finished it off so neatly.

I think this was quite an enjoyable quilt to make as it involved using a different technique.

Sea Glass Ripple blanket

For my nieces birthday gift, I have crocheted her a Ripple blanket to match the Rainbow one I have already done for her older sister. 

And as it is her 12th birthday this week, I have finished it just in time!

This time I used a palette inspired by this photo we took at Kirra, on the Gold Coast in QLD, Australia.

I started with a mix of of blues and greens, then added a splash of purple and grey.

And because of the beachy theme,  I have named this one the "Sea Glass" ripple rug.

Once again, I have used the Neat Ripple tutorial by Lucy @ Attic 24 - she also has the instructions on how to do  the edging here.

These are my favourite colours and I would really like to do another one - maybe over winter next year! 

Hoping my niece likes snuggling with this as much as my kitty Simba did whilst I was doing the crochet!

Keep Calm Binding Kit

In the midst of sewing some gifts for Christmas, I decided to make a little something for myself...

This is my Goody Goody Binding kit made using the tutorial by Vanessa @ Lella boutique.

I used a few sewing themed fabrics including the fabulous "Keep Calm" print that I have have been wanting to use for a while now.

And I used the cute strawberries print from Briar Rose by Heather Ross to make the little strawberry shaped pocket which was just the right size to keep a small pair of scissors in from a recent swap. 

I also received the handy binding clips from the latest swap - the rainbow of colours they came in match perfectly.

Scraptastic Tuesday - Christmassy Table Runner

We are having a Christmas gathering at our place this year and I am trying to get a few things made ready for the table.

One quick project was a Quilt As You Go table runner using a tutorial by Maureen Cracknell.

I gathered some pieces of Christmas fabric and cut them into 2.5" strips - this is a great way to use up scraps.

The runner was very quick to sew up and only took me a few hours to do including stitching down the binding.

Aussie Supertote #2

After making the first Aussie Supertote recently, I had enough of the Robert Kaufman "Under The Australian Sun" fabrics remaining to do another one...

 Although I did have to make a pieced back from the scraps similar to the one I did on my Swoony Supertote last year.

I really like the combination of these Aussie prints together with the solid fabric which is a lovely soft green colour which matched with the gum leaf fabrics perfectly.

X-factor "Love Actually" pillow

For the latest round of the X-Factor pillow swap, there was a "holiday" theme so I decided to make a pillow using the Moda "Love" quilt pattern, as my favourite holiday movie is "Love, Actually".

Inspired by the "Merry Christmas, Darling" pattern by Bonnie @ Cottonway, I used a mix of Bonnie and Camille fabrics for this pillow in festive colours of red and green.

I changed the pattern a little by using a fussy cut piece from "Hello Darling" in place of the centre block as the fabric reminded me of a Poinsettia bloom.

The back is a green chevron to match the solid lime binding.

 This pillow fits an 18" insert and has a hidden zipper in the back.

I have posted this off to its new home and hoping it gets there in time for Christmas!

Baby Koala quilt

The Koala baby quilt made for a friend's baby using the "Abracadabra" quilt pattern by Ros @ Bloom and Blossom is finished and ready to be gifted.

For the smaller size of the quilt, I used some cute Koala prints along with a few Denyse Schmidt "Picadilly" fabrics.

I have made this quilt pattern a few times now and it is such a quick and easy one to put together.

For the quilting, I did some simple curvy lines along the horizontal seams using the Serpentine stitch on my sewing machine.

The back is a pretty floral print with colours of lime, teal, lilac and purple with a coordinating binding in "Orchid".
