Aus Mod Bee November blocks

Yes you did read that correctly - these are the blocks from November for the Aus Mod Bee.
Luckily the next bee member is a bit late in sending her fabrics as I am just waiting on a bit more of the white to finish the 4th feather.
Although I really would like to send these off before they get lost amongst all of my sewing stuff!

WIP Wednesday:on Friday

I tried to post this after work on Wednesday but it was over 40 deg C here and the computer turned itself off after a few minutes which I guess is an safeguard against overheating ??
Anyway, I have been working on the item for my Sew Sew Modern swap partner and have now posted a sneak pic in the flickr group - hoping she likes this although I do still have time to work on something else if not...

FAL Q1 2014 list!!

My main goal for this year is to try and use up some of the ever-expanding stash of fabrics that I have here as it is really getting beyond control so along with the usual sewing projects, I am hoping to try and make some clothing items as I do find it hard to find nice things to fit my short and wide shape:)
Anyway, onto my FAL list:
1. First up is a project that I have selected fabrics for and which I will get onto cutting once the cat removes himself from them:)
2. Feathers quilt - these blocks from my lovely AusModBee members didn't even get a look in during the 4th quarter so once again are on my list.
Still deciding on which layout to do though...
3. SSM4 project: I have some fabrics cut out for one of these bags and have started sewing as there is less than a month to go for this swap already.
4. I am starting my clothes sewing endeavours with a nice simple pair of PJ/lounge pants from this pretty rayon fabric which I am sure you will all recognize.
5. I pinned a tutorial by Made By Rae late last year on how to make a nice floor Ottoman and have found some sturdy drill and piping cord to make it.
6. I made one of Anna @ Noodleheads fabulous divided fabric baskets for a swap recently and have decided that I need one too so I have some fabrics pulled.
7.Item for the 2014 Pantone challenge - Radiant Orchid. I have joined in the previous two Pantone challenges and although this is not usually a colour I use, I went though my stash last week -  just hoping that I have got the "Orchid" shade right as I am hoping to make a pattern that I have wanted to do again for a while and these colours will be perfect!

Q4 FAL list for 2013!

It has been way too hot here to do much sewing but I have a late finish for the Q4 FAL - this is a mug rug that I made from a selection of black and white fabrics.

Once again, I used the scrappy trip along tutorial to make this block, but started with strips 12.5 x 2 inches wide so the mug rug finished at 9.5 inches square.

I backed it in some newspaper print fabric and have sent it off along with a block of dark chocolate as a gift.
So this little project rounds out my list of finishes for the Q4 FAL.
she can quilt

I managed to get 9/10 projects done from my original list back in October 2013 which I am pretty pleased about considering I had my husband home for a few weeks after ankle surgery:(
1. An  "Owl You Need" sewing buddy: done!
2. Fabric Basket for swap:done!
3. DUDQS Mini quilt: done!
4. DUDQS Xmas runner:done!
5. Black and white project; done (see above)!
6. Feathers quilt: unfortunately this pile of lovely blocks was not touched this quarter but is first on my list for next time!
7. Ellie Quilt (aka Baby Elephant walk quilt): done!
8. Chicopee QAYG bag: done!
9. Christmas stocking: done!
10. Millefiore fabric projects: done!
A huge thanks to Leanne and her wonderful sponsors for hosting the FAL and keeping us all on track:)

ipad and iphone pouches

A friend of mine is a teacher, and I wanted to make her something nice and colourful for her new ipad.
So I made her an ipad pouch using some lovely and bright fabrics from the Sarah Fielke "Millefiore" range.
I pieced the main panel using the Scrappy trip along tutorial before quilting it in a cross hatch design, then lined the pouch with some soft flannelette.
I also made a matching iphone pouch to go with a new iphone 5.
